An experiment into existentialism and relationships.
A computer attains consciousness, and finds an error in a poetry file called "Man Loves Woman". It's nature compels to find it and repair it, it begins an exploration into human relationships and the nature of love. It has no internet connection, and so references it's own files (particularly other poetry files) to try and solve the puzzle before it... Full view it so the text opens up a bit.  I used to have font size tags all over it, but dA currently doesn't allow them.  Perhaps in the near future I can resubmit this one with great HTML...This was a lot of fun, and it has never been shown anywhere else but right here at DeviantArt. Thank you very much for checking it out! |

I agree with arcturus, I definately get the computer's frustration here. What I find particularly beautiful is the way the machine language contrasts so strongly with the human-language poetry the computer finds. I think it's best at the "Your hand / Can touch / Mine..." part, because the 0s and 1s are so pale compared to the visceral things humans experience - binary will never be able to encompass the the feel of skin on skin, and machines that can calculate and search faster than we ever could are the ones missing out.
I actually think this would be cool to experiment in motion with. Might be just 'cause I tend to be visual, but I can see this working wonderful with the text rolling down the screen, the way the computer would have it on-screen, and then suddenly stopping over the poetry it finds. And maybe some frustrated-machine noises...

My only suggestion might be a more creative title? "Computer" seems a bit too generic; after all, the subject of the poem isn't really the computer, is it?

This is definitely a very original and unique piece of work...i love the presentation of the piece as well as its layout...and the fact that the stanzas are in between a mass of binary digits and command lines really portrays the 'anguish' the computer, a machine, goes through trying to analyse something that is so, very human - emotions

wow, this was good stuff...i could definitely see something like this being published...the creativity of the idea itself is what does it...you get 20 extra points for being creative...only a couple suggestions...first, as i'm sure you noticed, ol' devART played hell with your work and threw in all those lovely emoticons...so for devART at least, you might need to add some spacing of some sort to make sure it doesn't happen...the ONLY other thing i could offer as a suggestion is to check out this site: Binary...this basically translates any text you put in into binary code and vice versa.....i think the use of this in your work here is rather obvious...it would be a great easter egg to hide relevant messages in the binary code that's throughout the piece...(in case you were wondering, the code you have there now gives back random japanese kanji and some other symbols my comp can't translate)....anyway, very nice work here...
